About ACP

Academic and Career Planning, or ACP, is a student-driven, adult-supported process in which students create and cultivate their own unique and information-based visions for post secondary success, obtained through self-exploration, career exploration, and the development of career management and planning skills.

Students will also have opportunities to participate in a school-wide Career Day, fieldtrips, guest speakers, job shadowing, college visits, guidance planning meetings, and guidance activities as part of the ACP process.  Community members and parents will be involved throughout the process in many of these activities.

Birchwood teachers will work with all students on ACP Planning using Xello and other resources.  Students will also take a required Careers and Technology class during either 10th or 11th grade in one of the four CTE Areas where they will continue exploring careers, participate in a job shadow, prepare job campaign materials (job application, resume, cover letter, follow up letter), practice for job interviews, and prepare a career portfolio.

About Us

College and Career Ready

Whether your post-secondary goals include attending a competitive 4-year University, the local 2-year Community & Technical College, joining a branch of the military or applying to enter the workforce immediately upon graduation, your course of study and how you perform during high school directly impacts what options you will have.

We want to encourage students to challenge themselves at the most rigorous level possible but we also want to see students able to monitor and balance all activities when choosing high school courses. It is important to consider your involvement in leadership opportunities, athletics, music, community service, employment, and other extracurricular activities when choosing your course load.
